Beginner ice climbing course with IFMGA guides
An ice climbing workshop designed for those who want to approach this discipline with maximum attention to safety.
Over two intense days, you’ll learn basic techniques, become familiar with the specific equipment, and try climbing frozen waterfalls in a controlled and supportive environment.
The second day of the ice climbing workshop will focus on your first experience of a multi-pitch climb, always under the guidance of certified mountain guides.
No prior experience is required — this program is ideal for beginners and curious adventurers eager to discover the fascinating vertical world of ice. Want to know why we love ice climbing? Dive deeper here.
1. It’s not as extreme as it looks.
Behind every frozen waterfall, there’s a method, a rhythm, and a safety system designed to let you progress step by step. With the right guide, it’s about balance — not madness.
2. You’ll discover a new kind of silence.
In the cold air, every sound is sharper: the crunch of your crampons, the click of your axe, your own breathing. It’s focus, pure and simple.
3. You learn to trust — yourself and your rope partner.
Few activities build teamwork and awareness like ice climbing. Every move is communication, every anchor is connection.
4. It’s a full-body workout with a purpose.
Ice climbing challenges strength, coordination, and mental calm. You’ll work muscles you didn’t know you had — and feel stronger, not just fitter.
5. You’ll see winter differently.
Where most people see cold, you’ll see beauty. Frozen waterfalls become playgrounds, and winter turns into a season of discovery instead of hibernation.
AVAILABLE DATES
Individual participation fee: €450
The price includes: two days of ice climbing course with a certified UIAGM Mountain Guide, rental of technical equipment (harness, helmet, crampons, and ice axes), overnight stay in a mountain hut or hotel at the chosen location, and guide’s expenses.
Day 1 – First Climbing Techniques
Meeting at 9:00 a.m. at the chosen location and introduction to your Mountain Guide. The day begins at the ice climbing area, where you’ll get to know the tools and materials: knots, anchors, ice screws, and progression techniques. You’ll learn to climb on top-rope (moulinette) in a safe, guided environment, gaining confidence with the vertical world of ice.
After checking into your mountain hut or hotel, the afternoon continues with a practical session focused on the fundamentals: how to use crampons, handle ice axes, and manage movement on frozen terrain.
The day ends with a shared dinner and overnight stay in the hut/hotel—time to recharge and share your first impressions.
Day 2 – Icefall Climbing and Multi-Pitch Progression
On the second day, you’ll dive into the heart of the experience. We’ll move to a real frozen waterfall, where you can put into practice everything you’ve learned. You’ll experiment with multi-pitch climbing, feeling the thrill of ascending in a stunning alpine winter environment.
It will be an intense day filled with technique, focus, and adrenaline—always under the watchful guidance and advanced safety protocols of your certified Guides, who will accompany you every step of the way.

Mountaineering, ski touring, off-piste skiing and trekking take place in a natural, uncontrolled environment.
Weather conditions, snow, ice, terrain, visibility, altitude and physical fatigue can change rapidly and directly affect the course of the activity. For this reason, there is always an inherent level of objective risk, which cannot be eliminated but only managed.
All our activities are led by IFMGA Mountain Guides and Certified Hiking Guides (AMM).
The guide continuously assesses environmental conditions and the physical and mental state of participants, sets an appropriate pace, manages progression and ensures the correct use of equipment. If conditions require it, the guide may modify the itinerary or interrupt the activity, always in the interest of individual and group safety.
Participants are required to be in good physical and mental condition, adequately prepared for the level of the activity, and to follow the guide’s instructions at all times.
Group activities
During group outings, the pace is set according to the slowest participant. In case of fatigue or discomfort, the guide may decide to adjust the programme or return early. In the mountains, the group ascends and returns together.
If you want to go mountain climbing without worries, choose an international insurance policy like True Traveller or World Nomads: it covers mountain rescue, medical expenses, and repatriation. Also, remember to take out liability insurance to protect yourself against any accidental damage to others during your adventure.
