My goal

There are places that speak volumes without words, and the Vallée Blanche is one of them. Starting from Punta Helbronner at 3,462 metres, the route crosses the Col Flambeau and the Mer de Glace, finishing at Montenvers or, if snow conditions permit, directly in Chamonix. The Vallée Blanche offers a journey of rare beauty. Framed by the iconic peaks of Mont Blanc: Dent du Géant, Grandes Jorasses, Aiguilles, and many others.

The adventure begins with a briefing at the Skyway car park, followed by a trip up to the panoramic terrace. From there, the descent starts with a mix of classic runs and optional variations to suit the group. Midway, a break on the Mer de Glace offers a chance to take in the atmosphere before heading into the final stretch on skis. At the end of the descent, the experience continues with a visit to the enchanting ice caves, a well-deserved lunch in Chamonix, and a scenic return to Courmayeur.

A perfect blend of adrenaline, discovery, and Alpine majesty. The Vallée Blanche is perfect for skiers seeking an iconic and unforgettable descent. It’s a journey into the heart of the Alps, between eternal ice and breathtaking panoramas.

The Monte Rosa guides conduct ski mountaineering tours in the Vallée Blanche with a maximum of 6 skiers per guide.
The Monte Rosa guides may adjust itineraries and activity programs based on weather conditions and participants’ physical fitness.
The planned activity periods may vary due to weather and the physical state of the terrain (snow coverage, ground conditions, etc.).
Ski mountaineering requires a combination of technical skills and physical endurance.

  • Ability to ski on a black run: it is not strictly necessary to be able to ski on a black run to engage in ski mountaineering, but having good downhill technique is highly recommended. Off-piste conditions can be even more challenging than a black run, with untracked, crusty, powdery, or icy snow.
  • Physical endurance: ki mountaineering is a sport that demands significant endurance. Ascents can be long and strenuous, often with considerable elevation gain. Maintaining good overall fitness and adequate cardiovascular endurance is essential.
  • Leg strength: strong legs are necessary not only to handle ascents with skins but also to manage descents on challenging terrain. Specific training to build leg strength, such as squats, lunges, and calf exercises, can be very beneficial.
  • Respiratory capacity: excellent respiratory capacity is critical, especially at high altitudes where oxygen is thinner. Activities like running, cycling, or swimming can improve aerobic capacity and endurance.

In summary: while the ability to ski on a black run indicates a solid level of technical preparation, ski mountaineering also requires complete physical preparation and a good ability to adapt to the mountain’s variable conditions.
