Winter Courses Monte Rosa – FAQ
Who are these winter courses suitable for?
Our courses suit skiers, winter hikers, and aspiring mountaineers who want to move safely and confidently on snow-covered terrain.
Do I need previous mountaineering or ski touring experience?
Not necessarily. Many programmes welcome motivated beginners. Each course clearly states the technical level and can be adapted to the group.
What equipment do I need?
Typically: avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, harness, crampons, and ice axe. We’ll send a detailed kit list in advance, and rental is available in Alagna or Gressoney.
What will I learn?
Avalanche self-rescue, glacier travel basics, decision-making, terrain reading, and practical risk management — always hands-on, never just theory.
Who will guide me?
UIAGM-certified mountain guides with deep local knowledge of the Monte Rosa area and years of field experience.
How long does a course last?
Most programmes run from one to three days, depending on focus: avalanche self-rescue, ski touring progression, glacier skills, or mixed techniques.
Where do courses take place?
Around Alagna, Gressoney, and Ayas — authentic alpine environments that offer real learning conditions and varied terrain.
How big are the groups?
Small groups — typically 4–6 participants per guide — to maximise attention, safety, and personalised coaching.
What if the weather is poor?
Safety first. Your guide will assess conditions and propose an alternative plan or reschedule if necessary.
Can I book a private course?
Absolutely. We can tailor dates, objectives, and intensity for individuals, pairs, or private groups.
