When the next step already exists, but the rope team is missing
After the first meaningful experiences, objectives and routes become progressively clearer, a personal list of climbs begins to take shape, and the desire to give continuity to one’s mountaineering journey naturally grows.
At that point, a simple question emerges: who do I go with?
Many climbers already have the preparation and experience required to take on new routes. Organisation, however, often becomes the most complex part. Friends you have climbed with over the years may have different availability, different rhythms, or changing priorities. Free weeks rarely align, and even well-prepared climbers often postpone their plans simply because a stable rope team is missing.
The mountain remains there, while the project struggles to become reality.
Why finding the right alpine climbing partners is often the hardest part
Mountaineers often talk about training, equipment and conditions, yet the process of building the right rope team receives far less attention, despite its strong impact on the overall experience.
When people are compatible, everything becomes more fluid. The pace comes naturally, decisions require less effort, and attention stays focused on movement and environment.
Today, finding this balance requires more intention than in the past. Those balancing mountain ambitions with demanding professional lives have limited time and look for well-planned experiences that support steady progression.
Build Your Rope Team
Build Your Rope Team was created to help climbers with similar goals meet and form balanced rope teams, bringing together people with comparable technical level and preparation, and helping them find the right mountaineering partners in the Alps.
The aim is to allow climbers who share the same objective to climb together, creating the right conditions to reach their goal in a natural and progressive way, alongside compatible mountaineering partners in the Alps who move at a similar pace and with the same mindset.
By submitting a request and indicating objectives, availability and experience, it becomes possible to connect with compatible climbers and plan the ascent together with an IFMGA mountain guide. The process simply facilitates the meeting of people who are looking for the same next step in the mountains and searching for reliable mountaineering partners in the Alps.
When the rope team works, the experience changes
A well-built rope team reduces the small frictions that often emerge during a climb. Pace becomes shared, energy is distributed more efficiently, and decisions feel more natural.
The mountain returns to the centre of the experience.
Unlike a fixed group ascent, where participants gather around predefined dates and programmes, Build Your Rope Team starts from the people themselves. The goal is to bring together climbers with similar preparation, expectations and rhythm, allowing the rope team to form coherently before the ascent even begins.
During group climbs, guides continually adapt the pace to climbers with different rhythms and experience levels. With a balanced rope team formed from the start, progression becomes smoother and each climber can move forward with greater continuity.
The first step happens before putting on the backpack
Every ascent begins long before the approach walk. It starts when the right context for the experience is defined.
Build Your Rope Team supports this phase, helping those who feel ready to turn a project into something concrete.
Who Build Your Rope Team is for
Build Your Rope Team supports climbers who have already begun their mountaineering journey and want to continue progressing, yet find it difficult to meet partners with similar goals and availability.
It works particularly well for those with limited time during the year who want to make the most of their available windows by forming a balanced rope team from the start.
The project brings together climbers with comparable preparation and a shared approach to the mountains, allowing each ascent to unfold with greater coherence and peace of mind.
For many, it becomes the natural step between early experiences and a more consistent and conscious mountaineering path.

Sometimes the most important decision is not about the destination or the difficulty of the route, but simply about who you choose to begin the journey with. It is through the people we share the pace with that trust, rhythm and safety take shape, turning an ascent into something that goes beyond the result and becomes part of a more conscious path.
