Ski touring Capanna Margherita is an unforgettable adventure, even in winter. While Capanna Margherita is often considered a summer destination, it can also be reached on skis during the colder months. Though open only as a bivouac in winter, this high-altitude hut is a sought-after goal for skiers exploring the 4000-meter peaks of the Alps.
From the summit of Punta Gnifetti at 4554 meters, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Monte Rosa’s south face, Alagna, Valsesia, the Po Valley, and even the Maritime Alps. Ski touring Capanna Margherita allows you to experience this incredible scenery under the guidance of Monte Rosa’s expert guides. Day 0
5:00 PM – briefing with your UIAGM guide in the office, via call, or over the phone—whichever you prefer. We want to get to know you to ensure we understand your expectations. We will review the equipment details and prepare the plan for the following days, taking into account training level, weather, and snow conditions.
Day 1
Meeting with the guide in Alagna or Gressoney for equipment check and distribution of technical materials. In the early afternoon, we will put on our skins and start the ascent towards Capanna Gnifetti, departing from Punta Indren. The route is short and not too challenging, but we will take it at a slow pace with several breaks to acclimatize and enjoy the scenery. Expected arrival time is 4:00 PM. Dinner and overnight stay at the refuge.
Day 2
At dawn, we will set off in a rope team to reach Capanna Margherita. We expect to arrive mid-morning, where we’ll take the ceremonial photos and take a break to recharge our energy. The descent awaiting us is spectacular and will bring us back to Alagna or Gressoney, with our hearts full of emotions.

Mountaineering, ski touring, off-piste skiing and trekking take place in a natural, uncontrolled environment.
Weather conditions, snow, ice, terrain, visibility, altitude and physical fatigue can change rapidly and directly affect the course of the activity. For this reason, there is always an inherent level of objective risk, which cannot be eliminated but only managed.
All our activities are led by IFMGA Mountain Guides and Certified Hiking Guides (AMM).
The guide continuously assesses environmental conditions and the physical and mental state of participants, sets an appropriate pace, manages progression and ensures the correct use of equipment. If conditions require it, the guide may modify the itinerary or interrupt the activity, always in the interest of individual and group safety.
Participants are required to be in good physical and mental condition, adequately prepared for the level of the activity, and to follow the guide’s instructions at all times.
Group activities
During group outings, the pace is set according to the slowest participant. In case of fatigue or discomfort, the guide may decide to adjust the programme or return early. In the mountains, the group ascends and returns together.
