My goal

If you’ve always dreamed of exploring off the beaten path and experiencing a true mountain adventure, our “First Ski Touring Day” is the perfect starting point. Whether you use skis or a splitboard, this ski touring program is for complete beginners, offering an immersive introduction to the world of high-altitude ski mountaineering above 4000 meters. The Monte Rosa Alpine Guides will support you every step of the way, from equipment checks to snow conditions, through preparation and finally, to gliding over untouched snow.

Throughout the day, you’ll discover what it means to navigate untracked landscapes, learn basic techniques, gain insights into moving safely, and feel the thrill of direct contact with nature, far from the crowded slopes. It will be a day of learning, exploration, and enjoyment.

Day 0
At 5:00 PM: Briefing with your IFMGA guide, which can be in our office, on a call, or over the phone, as you prefer.
We want to get to know you to fully understand your expectations. We’ll review the equipment details and plan for the next day, considering fitness, weather, and snow conditions. We will agree on a meeting place and time, and the guide will provide all the necessary instructions for accessing the starting point.

Day 1
We’ll start with a lesson on basic techniques, such as using climbing skins and managing balance, followed by a panoramic ascent where you’ll learn navigation skills and how to read snow conditions. After a scenic break, the highlight of the day will be the descent on fresh snow—a thrilling and safe experience, guided by your mountain guide. We’ll wrap up the day with a final debrief to consolidate the skills you’ve acquired.

Mountaineering, ski touring, off-piste skiing and trekking take place in a natural, uncontrolled environment.
Weather conditions, snow, ice, terrain, visibility, altitude and physical fatigue can change rapidly and directly affect the course of the activity. For this reason, there is always an inherent level of objective risk, which cannot be eliminated but only managed.

All our activities are led by IFMGA Mountain Guides and Certified Hiking Guides (AMM).
The guide continuously assesses environmental conditions and the physical and mental state of participants, sets an appropriate pace, manages progression and ensures the correct use of equipment. If conditions require it, the guide may modify the itinerary or interrupt the activity, always in the interest of individual and group safety.

Participants are required to be in good physical and mental condition, adequately prepared for the level of the activity, and to follow the guide’s instructions at all times.

Group activities

During group outings, the pace is set according to the slowest participant. In case of fatigue or discomfort, the guide may decide to adjust the programme or return early. In the mountains, the group ascends and returns together.
