Freeride & Heliskiing on Monte Rosa

Level: 3
Season: Winter
Duration: 2
Participants: Max 4

My goal

Two days of private skiing in Alagna and Gressoney: one day of freeride and one day of heliskiing with an IFMGA Mountain Guide.

Experience two different ways of exploring Monte Rosa’s off-piste terrain. We’ll start with a full day of lift-accessed freeride, discovering the slopes and valleys of Alagna and Gressoney. On the second day, we’ll use a helicopter to reach more remote mountain terrain, away from the ski lifts.

The first day will also give us the opportunity to ski together, get to know your abilities and preferences, and prepare for the heliskiing experience.

This private two-day programme is designed for confident off-piste skiers who want to combine great skiing with the freedom of exploring different terrain, accompanied by a local IFMGA Mountain Guide.

Where you’ll go

We’ll begin in Alagna, using the Monterosa Ski lift network to explore the freeride terrain between Alagna and Gressoney. Depending on snow and weather conditions, we’ll choose from a variety of off-piste routes, with different gradients, exposures and lengths.

For the heliskiing day, we’ll head to the designated helicopter departure point and fly into the surrounding mountain terrain.

Our landing location and descent will be selected according to the conditions, allowing us to make the most of the available snow and terrain.

What it requires

You should be a confident skier on black pistes and have previous experience skiing off-piste in different snow conditions.

Heliskiing does not necessarily mean skiing extreme terrain, but it does require good control, the ability to ski confidently away from prepared slopes and sufficient fitness for a full day in the mountains.

You don’t need previous heliskiing experience. We’ll assess your skiing ability during the freeride day and select appropriate terrain for the following day.

How you’ll be guided

Throughout both days, we’ll ski with a dedicated IFMGA Mountain Guide who knows the Monte Rosa area and its changing winter conditions.

Because this is a private programme, we’ll adapt the pace, routes and technical difficulty to your group’s experience and preferences.

Your guide will assess snow stability, weather, visibility and terrain before choosing each descent. We’ll also check your avalanche safety equipment and explain the procedures used during both freeride and heliskiing.

Helicopter operations depend on suitable flying and mountain conditions. We’ll organise the two days with this flexibility in mind, prioritising the most appropriate conditions for each activity.

2 participants: €1,200.00 per person
3 participants: €800.00 per person
4 participants: €600.00 per person

Prices are based on a private heliskiing experience with one helicopter flight.

What’s included

  • Private IFMGA Mountain Guide for 2 days
  • One full day of guided freeride in Alagna and Gressoney
  • One day of guided heliskiing
  • Helicopter flight for the heliskiing day
  • Avalanche safety kit: transceiver, shovel and probe
  • ABS avalanche airbag backpack for the heliskiing day

Before the programme begins, we’ll confirm the meeting point and time, review the weather and snow conditions, and check that you have all the necessary equipment.

We’ll also discuss your skiing experience and preferences so we can plan the first day of freeride and prepare for the heliskiing experience.

Accommodation is not included in the programme.

Day 1 — Freeride in Alagna and Gressoney

We’ll meet our IFMGA Mountain Guide, check our equipment and review the avalanche safety procedures before taking the Monterosa Ski lifts into the mountains.

We’ll spend the day exploring the off-piste terrain between Alagna and Gressoney, choosing our descents according to the snow conditions, visibility and your skiing ability.

The Monte Rosa ski area offers a wide variety of freeride terrain, from open slopes to steeper sections and long descents through the valleys.

As we ski together, we’ll get to know your technique, preferred terrain and pace. This will help us choose the most suitable options for the following day’s heliskiing.

At the end of the day, we’ll return to the valley and review the weather forecast and helicopter flying conditions.

Day 2 — Heliskiing on Monte Rosa

We’ll meet our guide and head to the designated helicopter departure point.

After a briefing on helicopter safety procedures, we’ll board the aircraft and fly towards our selected landing area in the Monte Rosa mountains.

The helicopter will allow us to reach terrain away from the ski lifts, opening up different possibilities for off-piste descents.

Before setting off, our guide will assess the snowpack, terrain and visibility. We’ll then ski the chosen route, adapting our pace to the conditions and your group’s abilities.

The landing point, itinerary and length of the descent will depend on the snow, weather and operational conditions on the day.

We’ll finish our experience with the return to the valley.

Important: Helicopter flights are subject to suitable weather, visibility, snow conditions and operational authorisation. If flying is not possible, we’ll organise a guided freeride day instead, with the applicable refund under the booking conditions.

For your two days of freeride and heliskiing, you’ll need:

  • Freeride skis and compatible ski boots
  • Ski poles
  • Certified ski helmet

We provide the avalanche safety kit (transceiver, shovel and probe) and an ABS avalanche airbag backpack for the heliskiing day.

After booking, we’ll send you detailed equipment information so you can prepare for both days. Please let us know in advance if you need help arranging ski equipment rental.

Mountaineering, ski touring, off-piste skiing and trekking take place in a natural, uncontrolled environment.
Weather conditions, snow, ice, terrain, visibility, altitude and physical fatigue can change rapidly and directly affect the course of the activity. For this reason, there is always an inherent level of objective risk, which cannot be eliminated but only managed.

All our activities are led by IFMGA Mountain Guides and Certified Hiking Guides (AMM).
The guide continuously assesses environmental conditions and the physical and mental state of participants, sets an appropriate pace, manages progression and ensures the correct use of equipment. If conditions require it, the guide may modify the itinerary or interrupt the activity, always in the interest of individual and group safety.

Participants are required to be in good physical and mental condition, adequately prepared for the level of the activity, and to follow the guide’s instructions at all times.

Group activities

During group outings, the pace is set according to the slowest participant. In case of fatigue or discomfort, the guide may decide to adjust the programme or return early. In the mountains, the group ascends and returns together.

**FAQ #1** – Do I need previous heliskiing experience?

No previous heliskiing experience is required, but you must already be a confident off-piste skier. During the first day, we’ll assess your skiing ability and choose suitable terrain for the heliskiing experience.

**FAQ #2** – How many helicopter flights are included?

The programme includes the helicopter flight for the heliskiing day. Additional flights are not included unless specifically agreed when booking. The final flight arrangements depend on the number of participants and operational conditions.

**FAQ #3** – What happens if the helicopter cannot fly?

If weather or operational conditions prevent heliskiing, we’ll organise a guided freeride day instead.

A refund of €900 applies to each booked helicopter flight that cannot be operated. Ski passes are non-refundable.

**FAQ #4** – Can we choose our freeride and heliskiing routes?

Because this is a private programme, we’ll take your preferences and skiing ability into account. Your guide will select the final routes according to the snow, weather, visibility and terrain conditions.

**FAQ #5** – Is avalanche safety equipment provided?

Yes. We provide an avalanche safety kit consisting of a transceiver, shovel and probe. An ABS avalanche airbag backpack is also included for the heliskiing day.

Your guide will check the equipment and explain the relevant safety procedures before skiing.

**FAQ #6** – Are accommodation and ski passes included?

Accommodation and ski passes are not included in the package. You can stay in Alagna or Gressoney, and we’ll confirm the meeting arrangements before the activity.

**FAQ #7** – Can we change the order of the two days?

We normally begin with freeride and continue with heliskiing on the second day. However, helicopter operations depend on suitable conditions, so we may adjust the schedule when necessary.
