Day 0 – Getting to know each other and preparing for the experience
Before the activity, we arrange a short call with your Mountain Guide. This is a chance to get to know each other, discuss your previous experience, clarify expectations and objectives, and check the equipment you will need. The Guide outlines the expected conditions and explains what the mountain may offer at that time. The programme is not fixed at this stage: the final plan will be confirmed according to the actual conditions. If you are already in Alagna and would like to meet in person, we can have the briefing over an aperitivo instead.
Day 1 – Reading the conditions and getting to know the group
You will meet your Guide at 8:00 am at the Alagna cable car station or at 9:00 am at Passo dei Salati. The meeting point will be confirmed before the activity. The day begins with an equipment check and an assessment of the group’s abilities on the mountain. The Guide evaluates the snow, weather and terrain and chooses the area and activity that can offer the most suitable experience at that moment. During the day, the guide introduces the technical and safety skills related to the chosen activity and gets to know how each participant moves in the mountains. Return is expected at around 5:00 pm.
Day 2 – Going further
The second day builds on what the guide observed and discussed with the group during the first day, together with the latest snow and weather conditions. We may continue the work started the day before, explore different terrain, or change area or activity when the mountain suggests a more interesting option. The same guide stays with the group for both days, allowing the experience to develop naturally and find the right balance between discovery, learning and safety. Return is expected at around 5:00 pm.
WMA – Winter Mountain Access is a two-day winter experience to explore Monte Rosa in winter with a local IFMGA Mountain Guide. Each morning, we assess the snow, weather, visibility and terrain. We then choose the area and activity that best suit the conditions and the group.
You will spend two days with the same IFMGA Mountain Guide, drawing on their experience and local knowledge. The programme develops on the mountain, following the conditions and the participants’ abilities.
Skiing remains the priority. When conditions allow, we may go freeriding, head out on touring skis or explore another part of Monte Rosa. If the snow does not offer a worthwhile ski day, we change activity. Alternatives include avalanche rescue practice, snowshoeing, crampon skills, ice or rock.
During the first day, your guide gets to know each participant’s technique, pace and expectations. The second day builds on these observations and your shared experience. You may therefore explore different terrain or develop the skills you started working on.
The goal is to make the most of each day and begin to understand the winter mountain. You will discover what the conditions allow and learn why your guide chooses one route or activity over another.
