My goal

Your first approach to real ski mountaineering in high alpine terrain of Monte Rosa. Improve your skills with an unforgettable adventure at Punta Giordani, surrounded by the majestic 4000-meter peaks of the Alps. From the summit of Punta Giordani, you’ll be surrounded by the wonder of the 4000-meter skiable peaks of the Alps, a starting point to dream of new adventures. Departing from the Punta Indren station at 3275 meters, you’ll immediately put on your skis with skins. The wide slope before you welcomes you with a gradient that gradually increases to 3800 meters, then becomes gentler. As you ascend, the views will unfold before you, making you forget the fatigue and filling you with awe.

Whether you’re tackling a 4000 for the first time or have been here before, the atmosphere at this altitude will be magical, and you’ll feel that every breath is different. At 4000 meters, after removing your skis, a short 5-meter rise will lead you to one of the most spectacular viewpoints of Monte Rosa, with a panorama extending all the way to Lake Garda. The descent will be exhilarating. We’ll seek the best snow to ski down to 3300 meters, where we’ll decide whether to ski on the Alagna side, crossing the Bors glacier and the famous Valsesia channels, or on the Gressoney side, passing through the Eagle Channel, the Grand Canal, Stolemberg, or Colle della Salza.

Each turn will require precision and control, but this is the key to experiencing an unforgettable adventure, filled with breathtaking landscapes and descents that will fulfill the dreams of the most passionate skiers.

The Monte Rosa guides ascend Punta Giordani with skis, taking a maximum of 4 skiers per guide.

  • The Monte Rosa guides may modify itineraries and activity programs based on weather conditions, accessibility of huts, and the physical preparation of participants.
  • The timeframes for activities may vary due to weather conditions and the physical state of the locations (snow coverage, ground conditions, etc.).

Facing a ski mountaineering ascent requires a combination of technical skills and physical endurance.

  • Ability to ski on a black run: while it is not strictly necessary to be able to ski on a black run to go ski mountaineering, having good downhill technique is highly recommended. Off-piste conditions can be even more challenging than a black run, with untracked, crusty, powdery, or icy snow.
  • Physical endurance: ski mountaineering is a sport that demands considerable endurance. Ascents can be long and challenging, often involving significant elevation gains. Having good overall fitness and adequate cardiovascular endurance is essential.
  • Leg strength: legs need to be strong not only for climbing with skins but also for managing descents on challenging terrain. Specific training to improve leg strength, such as squats, lunges, and calf exercises, can be very beneficial.
  • Respiratory capacity: excellent respiratory capacity is crucial, especially at high altitudes where oxygen is thinner. Activities like running, cycling, or swimming can enhance aerobic capacity and endurance.

In summary, while the ability to ski on a black run may indicate a good level of technical preparation, ski mountaineering also requires comprehensive physical training and a strong ability to adapt to the mountain’s variable conditions.
